Teaching

Learning through conversation, practice, and belonging.

I design classrooms where students connect communication theory with everyday experience, develop confidence through practice, and produce work they can carry beyond the course.

Teaching philosophy

Students learn by doing.

The strongest classroom connects knowledge with practice and makes room for students to develop their own voices.

My teaching begins with the belief that students learn more deeply when they can test ideas, make choices, receive feedback, and try again. I combine clear instruction with discussion, collaborative activities, presentations, and project-based learning.

I also recognize that students enter the classroom with different levels of confidence and experience. In public speaking, for example, I have worked individually with students experiencing serious speaking apprehension, using repeated practice and supportive feedback to help them build confidence.

Whether students are developing a speech, analyzing a platform, or building an advertising campaign, I want them to understand why their decisions matter and how communication shapes public life.

Courses

03 COMM 1020

Introduction to Public Speaking

Students develop research, organization, delivery, persuasion, audience awareness, and speaking confidence through presentations, collaborative activities, repeated practice, and constructive feedback.

Teaching practice

How the classroom works.

Each course combines structure with room for exploration. Students know what they are learning, why it matters, and how each activity contributes to the larger course goals.

01

Participation with purpose

Discussions and activities give students a clear reason to contribute, apply course concepts, and learn from one another.

02

Practice before performance

Students rehearse important skills before major assignments, reducing uncertainty and creating space for improvement.

03

Useful and specific feedback

Feedback identifies what is working, what needs attention, and what students can do next.

04

Work that travels beyond the classroom

Projects help students produce speeches, strategies, campaigns, and portfolio materials with value beyond a final grade.

Inside the classroom

Activities built for active learning.

Students learn through short challenges, group problem-solving, client-centered projects, presentations, peer feedback, and reflection.

Campaign Studio

Teams develop a communication strategy around a real or proposed client.

Persona Matrix

Students translate audience research into practical creative and strategic decisions.

Hook Challenge

Students practice opening a speech with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Shark Tank Pitch

Groups present persuasive ideas, defend their decisions, and respond to questions.

Teaching conversations
